I’m Kim Short, Candidate for Volusia County School Board, District 3. I’ve run a $30 million dollar business for Federated Department Stores, with the highest profit margin in Federated, and attained my own license for demolition. I understand big budgets and facilities. I’m a Certified Educational Surrogate, on a volunteer basis, which means I work with families of children with special needs to get correct program placement, free of cost. I’m also a mentor, and a substitute teacher. In fact, I’ve taught in fourteen of our area schools, in a variety of classrooms, from Pre-K ESE at Edgewater Public to the 12th grade students in the Technology, Engineering, Science, and Aeronautics Academy at Atlantic High School, and I’ve subbed in all the middle schools in district 2 and 3. I have always been a champion for children and families, especially the ones right here in Volusia County-where I’ve advocated for them publicly, privately, and most importantly, consistently. I’ve attended in person, or listened online, to 95% of the school board meetings since November 13th, 2012. I say what needs to be said, and I’m not afraid to ask the hard questions. It’s an honor to be supported by so many great people in our community, because they have seen my work first hand, and appreciate me. I want this job, to serve our taxpayers, families, and students, and I can hit the ground running- and that’s what sets me apart!
